Essentalia’s goal is to use natural plant materials with green and sustainable chemistry to bring you a premier product line in the consumer care and human and animal health markets. Essentalia LLC was founded by Dr. George Hoag who has more than 30 years working in academia and industry in the field of environmental technology and green product development. Dr. Hoag has a career long track record in developing new technologies that have made great commercial impact. His recent work resulted in the premier NuvoCool product lines for both humans and horses that are remarkably better than anything on the market for Over-The-Counter (OTC) topical
analgesics. Dr. Hoag received his B.A. degree from the University of Colorado, his M.S. from the University of Massachusetts and his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. Dr. Hoag is an elected and active member of the Connecticut Academy of Sciences and Engineering, as well as elected to Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi and Chi Epsilon honor societies. Throughout his career, Dr. Hoag focused his work on conducting fundamental research on the behavior of chemicals in the environment, using this knowledge to develop novel products and technologies, then bringing them to the field for commercialization.

40 years ago Karl Klösters, Pharmaka’s founder and owner, started the company’s success story in the downstairs rooms and garage of a house in Mülheim-Ruhr, Germany. 

His idea to turn his hobby into his profession and develop and produce high quality care products for every aspect of equine sport culminated in the year 2000 in the opening of a state-of-the art production and administration center constructed using organic building materials.

Officinalis® is an all-natural line of products that harnesses the power of plants grown in the rich soils of Italy. In the Berici Mountains in Val Liona, plants are carefully tended to without the use of fungicides and chemical substances.
The essential oils are then extracted from these plants using vapor to ensure maximum quality and potency, allowing full power of the natural ingredients to shine through in all of our products.

BugPellent is an all-natural line of products designed to repel insects without the use of harsh chemicals. The patented hanging cylinder uses essential oils and waxes, in a unique vapor release design to safely and effectively repel flying insects. The essential oil vapors permeate the air and provide a pleasant-smelling environment while reducing flying insect populations throughout the barn or other enclosures. The BugPellent product line also includes a fly & tick spray, which outperformed an industry leading natural fly spray brand in independent lab tests, and a fly & tick gel for use on sensitive areas of a horse and areas difficult to spray. The gel, which has proven to be effective in thousands of applications, is offered at a price point typically less than half of competitor offerings.
New for 2017, the fly spray is packaged as a 32 ounce ready to use bottle with a bonus bottle of concentrate, enabling customers to easily and cost effectively re-use the sprayer. All product formulations use eight or more different essential oils, all shown to provide repellency for different species of insects. Competitor alternative products typically use only three or four oils. Our unique blend of oils delivers broad insect repellency providing customers with a more diverse solution for protection against flying insects. BugPellent formulations are free of conventional pesticides, solvents, or alcohols making it a safe, effective alternative for use on horses, dogs, and humans.
